About the Artist


Born Dundee. Painter in oil, watercolour, pastel and charcoal: portraits and figures. Began his career as an artist in Leuchars and Dundee where he developed a close association with Stewart Carmichael, John Duncan and Alexander Grieve. Moved to Edinburgh in 1920 to take up teaching at ECA. Secretary of RSA 1932. Some of his work was extremely tasteful, beautifully harmonious in colour and conception, with fine draughtsmanship. Elected RSW 1918, ARSA 1925 & RSA 1930. Exhibited RA (5), RSA (114), RSW(91), GI(100), AAS 1908-1937 7 Lillie Gallery (6).
