About the Artist

Born Milngavie. Painter in oil & watercolour of landscapes & figures. Enjoyed particulalrly the rural farm scenes of Perthshire and the East Coast. Trained GSA moving to Edinburgh, Dundee then c1923 to Dunkeld, settling in Barnhill, Angus. He enjoyed bright, sunlit scenes, often in dappled sunlight coming through trees falling on farm buildings with usually a working horse and foraging poultry. The bright pastoral pleasures of the scene made his work more popular among the public than among critics. Signed his work “R Russell MacNee”.

Exhibited RA(3), RSA(35), RSW(3), AAS, GI(115) & Paris Salon. Represented in Kirkcaldy AG & Culzean Castle (NTS)
