About the Artist

Naoko Shibuya - Artist's Statement

I have been inspired by invisible stream of life and the phenomenon of fleeting moments in nature which we never truly capture or resist.

Most of my images in my paintings come from the impression and spectrum of nature.

I draw ideas from the form of trees, plants, flowers and small birds not only for visual effects but also to express the strength, robustness, beauty and impermanence of nature and life.  I go to botanic gardens regularly to get ideas.  I get inspired by the colour and energy of plants and flowers when they are in bloom or wither.

Circles and spirals in my work represent symbols of reincarnation which can be often found in Buddhism and Celtic philosophy. I have been trying to express the repeating and everlasting flow of nature through this forms and combining with my drawing is the essence of my personal artistic rhythm.
