About the Artist

Kenneth Blues Wilson

My approach is essentially that of a representational painter who occasionally delves into abstraction. The geology in my area has sparked off many experiments which have led into 'uncharted waters'.  However, I still get excited by the skies above East Lothian and the changing moods of the North Sea, never forgetting the light and dark on the human face.
I work in a variety of mediums; oils, acrylics, watercolour, and clay using whatever is appropriate to the subject. I also enjoy wood-engraving.

Biography

I was born 1946 and grew up in Dundee and Cupar.

At 16 I became a technician in Dundee University until 1971 when aged 25 I was accepted as a student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.

My major studies were Illustration and printmaking. For a time after graduation I was a medical illustrator at Ninewells Medical School before joining the Scottish Development Agency as a designer of publications and exhibitions.

From 1984 until 2011, as a freelance, I worked for many organisations producing illustrative material and ultimately carved sculptural murals for visitor centres and permanent exhibitions. During this time I continued to exhibit with the RSW and RSA and have been shortlisted 3 times for the Scottish Portrait Awards.

At 76 I am still happily painting, sculpting and engraving.
