Biography
Evie Rose Thornton is a Scottish visual artist whose contemporary landscape paintings explore the atmosphere, emotion and changing light of the country's coastline and mountains. Working primarily in acrylic, she captures fleeting moments when the landscape is transformed by colour, creating evocative works that sit between observation and memory. Rather than representing a specific place, her paintings seek to convey the experience of being immersed within it.
Expressive brushwork, rich colour and semi abstract forms are used to distil the shifting qualities of weather, light and space into compositions that encourage quiet reflection and a renewed connection with the natural world. Her practice is rooted in direct experience of the landscape while embracing intuition, allowing each painting to become an emotional interpretation rather than a literal record.
Thornton is a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland and works from Coburg House Art Studios in Leith, Edinburgh. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work has been recognised through awards including the DJCAD Research Prize, the RSA John Kinross Scholarship and the Hope Scott Trust Award.
