About the Artist


Born Edinburgh. Painter in Oil, Watercolour, pencil; flowers, landscape, still life. Studied Edinburgh College of Art 1941-50 where he was an Andrew Grant Scholar. His studies were interrupted by war service spent in the Royal Corps of Signals, mainly in the Far East 1942-47. Elected SSA 1953. Resident tutor, National Gallery of Canada’s summer school 1955, and in 1960 appointed to the staff of ECA where he became senior lecturer 1968-88. Elected RSW 1963, ARSA 1968, President RSW 1974, RSA 1979, Treasurer RSA 1980-90, President RSA 1990-98. Exhibited regularly at RSA & RSW. Represented in SNGMA, Aberdeen AG, Glasgow AG, Kirkcaldy AG, City of Edinburgh Collection, RSA, SAC.
