Biography
Amanda Gizzi graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a first-class degree.
She has practised and exhibited at national and international levels, notably Art Tapestry 6 in Sweden, Latvia, Denmark and Romania. She has had solo shows at the Scottish Arts Club and recently was part of a three man show at Frames Gallery Perth.
Amanda’s tapestries are bright, full of ennui and humour, witty observations pop life, often telling a story. She has exhibited widely, is a member of Visual Arts Scotland and also of STAR- Scottish Tapestry Artists Regrouped. (Ref: Joanne Soroka & Anna Wetherell)
Personal Statement
My work is mostly figurative or at least it tries to tell a story.
For inspiration I look for something different and I listen to people telling tales and sharing gossip and I look to the world around me for colour and movement in everyday activities.
I work through the process of making which can be a bit messy, but I am happy to break the rules as long as I get the kind of image I enjoy.
I have taught and lectured in Art and Design Education, Research and Development at the University of Edinburgh.
I am a founding member of STAR, Scottish Tapestry Artists Regrouped and past VP of Visual Arts Scotland.
