Charles Young

Biography

Charles Young works as an artist, animator and model maker, living and working in Edinburgh, where he studied Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art. His sculptures and stop-motion animations draw from the forms, structures and histories of the built environment.

The materials that he works with include paper, wood and fabric. He uses stop motion animation to introduce movement into some pieces, including the commercial projects that form an important part of his practice. More recently he has become interested in ways of creating larger structures in his work, transforming his small paper models into the human scale, leading to a large-scale installation commission in the Netherlands in 2026.
